The ideal chlorine level for public pools typically ranges between 1.0–3.0 ppm (parts per million), while the optimal pH range is 7.2–7.6. Regular testing ensures that these levels remain within safe parameters. Pool operators should also test for total dissolved solids (TDS) and calcium hardness, as imbalances can contribute to scaling, cloudiness, and equipment deterioration.
To maintain water quality effectively, pool managers should implement a scheduled testing routine based on pool usage and local health regulations. High-traffic pools, such as those in gyms, hotels, and community centers, require more frequent testing, sometimes multiple times per day. Testing should be conducted using digital meters, test strips, or colorimetric kits, depending on the facility’s needs and resources.
In recent years, automated water testing systems have become increasingly popular, allowing pool managers to monitor water quality in real-time. These systems provide continuous readings of chlorine, pH, and temperature levels, reducing human error and ensuring immediate corrective action when imbalances occur.
